Micro-mollusc Hunt
About 75% of NZ molluscs are less than 10mm long when adult. Micro-molluscs are very elegantly shaped and can be found washed up on our sandy shores. To celebrate seaweek we are asking you to join us on the hunt for ‘teenies’. You may find them washed up at high tide near the rocky shore. Send your teeny collection (under 10mm only) to Experiencing Marine Reserves to go in the draw to win your own micro mollusc locket necklace (2 to be won, one Northland and one national draw)
Conditions: No collecting shells from the shores of marine reserves (or other MPA with special rules about shell collecting), no live specimens (dead beach cast only) and only send specimens found around the beaches of NZ. Your entries will be kept by EMR as a fundraising and educational initiative. We will email you a micro mollucs ID chart in return and you could win your own locket necklace (no promises that it will be made up of the same teenies you collected though, but you will be able to add your own
