EMR 2009

The 5 year 8 students from Tapu school joined the EMR programme in February / March 2009. Class sessions led by DOC ranger Rebekah Caldwell and DOC Marine 'techie' Kristina Hillock had the students engaged and wanting to spread the marine conservation message to their whanau and friends.

The snorkel training was held by Ranger Becks and DOC's Joy Mickleson at the Thames Memorial pool and much to the suprise of the students, nobody drowned!

The feild trips to Hahei Beach and Te Whanganui-A-Hei were held with Colville School and were a HUGE hit with the parents, oh yeah and the students!

In fact hearing, 'Dad put that crayfish down, the DOC lady says you can't touch it in the Marine Reserve!' is still a career highlight.

Support for EMR from the school going through staff changes, a big thing when you only have two staff, was amazing and acting Principal and senior room teacher Pete Ingerson was just the best.
