Experiencing Marine Reserves – EMR – Celebrates 10 years!

We fundraised $6186.85!

EMR is part of the Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust and empowers schools and communities by providing the equipment and expertise for a hands-on experience in the ocean. We are based and most active in Northland, although our programmes are also active in other parts of the country. As with many charities, finding sustainable income is an ongoing mission. So for our 10th Anniversary we decided we needed to do a fundraiser and our annual trip to the Poor Knights Islands with top achieving students from a variety of schools we have worked with, and who won a place on board Dive! Tutukaka’s ‘Perfect Day’. The dinner was on Friday the 27th May 2011 at Schnappa Rock Restaurant in Tutukaka.

We raised $6186.85 dollars from proceeds from the ticket sales, auctions, raffles and from our donated Villa Maria wine sales on the night which will directly benefit the Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust and delivery of the EMR programme to Northland schools, in particular Kamo Primary benefited from one of the auction items to support the delivery of EMR in their school.

The theme for the EMR charity dinner was ‘Underwater Love’ (of course) and we saw some great costumes, such as a black coral tree and a skate. We had award winning MC and former Lord of the Rings star Bruce Hopkins as our MC and Tutukaka General store owner Greg Humphries was a amazing auctioneer! MC Bruce Hopkins.

Supporting organisations and auction items included a weekend at Tutukaka package sponsored by Dive! Tutukaka, Schnappa Rock & Pacific Rendezvous. A limited edition screenprint by Steve Moase, Wettie snorkel gear, framed photograph by Dr Roger Grace, gifts from Viola Organics, Trees Please, Ecochi, Trade Aid Whangarei, Putiputi Ra, Elite Dive Equipment, Surfpad and Villa Maria Wines and a special opportunity to sponsor and name a community guided snorkel day
