Kokopu Primary School

Kokopu Primary School took part of in the Experiencing Marine Reserves (EMR) programme in term four, 2006.

Students experienced huge eagle rays and kina barrens at McGregor's Bay before journeying down to Goat Island marine reserve where they noticed a huge difference in the number of marine biodiversity that they saw.

Their EMR coordinator Kim Boyle says they were an awesome school to work with and they produced some top quality work at the end of the programme. Year 2 and 3 students shared research on many different types of marine species and produced a beautifully illustrated book to EMR to use with other students.

The Year 3 and 4 students produced reports and their interpretation of Alison Arnolds "The very hungry Kina" story. The year 5 and 6 students performed a song and dance to their community at the end of the year and spoke about marine reserves and their experience.
