Parua Bay School
Three senior classes from Parua Bay School are taking part in the EMR programme in Term 1, 2009. They've checked out the Whangarei harbour marine reserve, The Poor Kngiths Islands marine reserve and the Goat Island marine reserve!!! They LOVE marine reserves and are now taking action for their local marine environment.
Three classes from ParuaBaySchool took part in the EMR programme in Term 1 of 2007.
Most memorable moments included a snorkel in the newly established marine reserve at Motukaroro where students were treated to the spectacular site of the reserves huge resident short-tail ray ‘Raymond’, as well as the unique biodiversity that makes the area so special.
Students also had a unique experience down at New Zealand’s oldest marine reserve at Goat Island where they experienced large Snapper, Blue Mao Mao, Parore, Crayfish and Red Moki to name a few!They also got the opportunity to be movie stars on the Glass Bottom Boat ride for the LEARNZ crew!!
Students produced some fantastic work back at school including funky fish art, posters and stories.Avalon Andrews and Annelies Griemink sent marine conservation essays into a ‘NZ Geographic’ essay competition and both got in the top ten.Fantastic work and what a great way to get your message out there!!
Annelies Griemink won the trip to the PoorKnightsIslands marine reserve with EMR in recognition of her great work and action.Congratulations Anneliese!
