Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o te Tonga o Hokianga

Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o te Tonga o Hokianga are participating in the EMR programme again in term 4, 2008.

Local Investigation

TKKMo Te Tonga o Hokianga students whaea me nga matua were kindly hosted by the Copthorne Hotel and Restort - Hokianga for the day. Students gained snorkelling confidence in the pool at the resort, then carried out the local investigation at Pohutukawa Point and along the Omapere shore.

There was plenty to see above and below water with a New Zealand Fur Seal basking on the boatramp.

The students were also visited by a shag while in the water.

Goat Island Marine Reserve

The kura was blessed with excellent visibility of over 15m and clear skies for their marine reserve visit.

Adults and students were suprised to see the sea floor littered with the moulted shells of large crayfish.

Live crayfish were also found easily by the students.
