Funding and Support History – Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust
The national expansion of the EMR programme is supported by the Department of Conservation the Tindall Foundation.
In Northland the Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust receives sponsorship for EMR delivery from a variety of sources. Since 2002, the programme has been supported by the Department of Conservation. WWF-NZ supported EMR for three years from 2003 through the Environmental Education Action Fund. The Pacific Development and Conservation Trust made a one-off contribution to Northland delivery in 2005. The Lion Foundation made a significant contribution to EMR in 2006. The ASB Community Trust has supported programme running costs since 2007. EMR uses and is supported by 'Wettie' www.wettie.co.nz quality snorkel equipment, Hardcore Surf for body boards www.hardcoresurf.co.nz and Dive Tutukaka www.diving.co.nz sponsors a trip to the Poor Knights annually. Strong EMR programme delivery in Northland is vital as it both provides a model for other areas and helps build awareness of and involvement in marine protection in a region which despite its stunning marine features has very few protection measures in place.
