Come join Te Kura Moana - EMR for a day exploring Otata Island and the waters surrounding the Noises Islands. Celebrate Seaweek by learning about some of the challenges facing the inner gulf and some of the amazing restoration work already being carried out on and around the island.
 
This is event is in partnership with Auckland Sea Shuttles, Seaweek and the Neureuter family and is funded by Auckland Unlimited, Waiheke Local Board and the Bobby Stafford Bush Foundation
 
Priority registration for Waiheke locals through an early access code. If you are a Waiheke local please email sophie@ emr.org.nz with your address to receive the access code.
 
Cost for return sea shuttle (leaving from Matiatia Wharf): $40 + booking fee
 
When:
Postponed to Saturday 26th March 
11.15am – Meet at Matiatia Wharf, Waiheke Island in your togs with your gear pest proofed.
11.30 - 12.00pm - Travel to Otata Island
12.00pm - 12.45pm - Disembark boat onto Otata Island, Greeted by host Sue Neureuter followed by short guided tour
12.00 - 12.30pm - Lunch
12.30pm - 2.00pm Snorkel at Blinking Eye Bay
2.00pm - 2.30pm - Board Sea Shuttle and travel to second snorkel site
2.30 - 4.00pm Snorkel off boat (either north western side of Otata or Ahaaha Rocks)
4.00 - 4.30pm Travel back to Matiatia wharf and debrief
 
Bring your own gear (3mm long suit recommended) or get free hire* of our mask, snorkel, fins and wetsuits. * You must pre register with sizing to get equipment - so that we can bring it from the mainland. Experienced guides and advanced safety procedures will be in place on the day.
 
**Please note you will need a medium to high level of fitness and agility for this event, and are comfortable getting on and off a moving boat. Suitable for ages 10 and up. Registrations are essential.**
 
Te Kura Moana - Experiencing Marine Reserves runs a series of free and subsidised events over the summer months - we rely on your support to make them happen. We appreciate donations, either cash/eftpos on the day, online or by giving a koha of your time volunteering at a future event. Some people donate $5-10pp.
 
COVID information
We can't wait to reconnect with you all and to help you explore our big blue backyard. EMR has always strived to be as inclusive as possible with all our events, however we are in unprecedented times, which means the safety of our crew, volunteers and participants is paramount. Vaccination certificates for all those ages 12 and over will be required for all* public events in the COVID Traffic Light framework for the summer of 2021/22 (*unless specified otherwise). Participants under 12 years of age will need to be accompanied by a fully vaccinated parent or guardian. All participants will need to use face coverings and distance where practical. Please bring the QR code for My Vaccine Pass on your phone or printed to be scanned & verified on the event. You will need to bring photo ID. Some events may require your vaccination status to be verified prior to registration.
